The Outlaw: Why Motorcycle Camping Deserved Better
There is a moment every motorcycle traveler knows.
The engine is off. The helmet comes off. The silence finally arrives.
You've just ridden 400 miles (650 km) through mountain passes, endless highways or roads you've never seen before. Your body is tired, your motorcycle is covered in dust, and all you can think about is getting something to eat before the sun disappears.
Then comes the part nobody talks about.
You start unpacking.
The tent is in one bag. The mattress is strapped somewhere else. The sleeping bag is buried underneath everything. The poles have somehow found their way to the bottom of a pannier.
And if your timing is anything like ours...
that's usually when it starts raining.
We laughed about it for years.
Eventually we stopped laughing.
Because almost every incredible riding day seemed to end the same way—with thirty minutes of unpacking, searching and trying to remember where we'd put everything.
One evening we looked at each other and said,
"There has to be a better way to end a riding day."
That conversation eventually became The Outlaw.
We Didn't Need Another Tent
The world doesn't need another motorcycle tent.
Some are lighter.
Some are cheaper.
Some are smaller.
We weren't interested in making another one.
The problem wasn't the tent.
It was the experience.
Somewhere along the way, motorcycle camping had become a collection of separate products that riders simply accepted as normal.
We didn't.
We believed riders deserved something designed as one complete system, not a pile of individual products that happened to fit on a motorcycle.
That idea became The Outlaw.
One System. One Roll. One Less Thing to Think About.
The idea sounds obvious now.
Instead of designing separate products...
why not design everything to work together?
One roll.
One setup.
One place for the things you need most.
Instead of spending your evening unpacking equipment, you spend your evening enjoying where the motorcycle brought you.
It doesn't sound like a huge difference.
Until you've been living off your motorcycle for a week.
Designed in Switzerland. Tested Where It Matters.
The Outlaw was designed in Switzerland.
For us, that means more than adding a location to the label. It shaped the way we developed every part of The Outlaw. We never chased the longest feature list. We chased the simplest solution. Every detail had to earn its place, because on a motorcycle, anything unnecessary is simply extra weight.
Good products aren't finished in the workshop. They're finished on the road.
Some of our best ideas didn't come from meetings.
They came after days riding through Scandinavia.
After rain in the Alps.
After dust in Arizona.
After camping beside rivers in northern Sweden.
One evening outside Zion National Park, we arrived just before sunset. We were exhausted, hungry, and still had another long day planned. We remember standing beside the bikes thinking, "Why does this part always take so long?"
That evening didn't magically invent The Outlaw.
But it reminded us exactly why we were building it.
Not every prototype worked.
In fact, one early version looked fantastic in the workshop and completely fell apart after a couple of days on the road. Another solved one problem while creating two new ones.
Good.
That's how products improve.
Every mistake taught us something.
Every trip made the next version better.
Built for the Days Nobody Photographs
Instagram is full of perfect campsites.
Perfect sunsets.
Perfect motorcycles.
Real motorcycle travel is rarely perfect.
Sometimes you arrive after dark.
Sometimes the ground is soaked.
Sometimes your gloves are still wet from yesterday.
Sometimes you've ridden all day and simply want dinner and sleep.
That's the rider we designed The Outlaw for.
Not the one having a perfect day.
The one having a difficult one.
Because if your camping system works when everything goes wrong...
the good days become even better.
Comfort Is Part of the Ride
Motorcyclists love talking about lightweight gear.
So do we.
But after several consecutive days on the road, something becomes obvious.
A good night's sleep isn't a luxury.
It's part of the journey.
You ride better.
You make better decisions.
You enjoy tomorrow more.
That's why we never tried to build the smallest possible shelter.
We tried to build one people actually wanted to sleep in.
There is a difference.
Why We Called It The Outlaw
People often ask if the name has something to do with breaking rules.
It doesn't.
It has everything to do with escaping routines.
The best rides rarely follow the original plan.
You take the road that wasn't on the map.
You stay an extra night because another rider recommends a hidden lake.
You keep riding because the sunset is too beautiful to stop.
That's what The Outlaw represents.
Not rebellion.
Freedom.

That's perfectly okay.

The Outlaw wasn't built because the world needed another tent.
It was built because we got tired of ending incredible riding days with frustrating campsites.
That belief still guides everything we do.
Not every new idea becomes a product.
Not every prototype survives.
And that's okay.
If it doesn't genuinely improve life on the road, it never carries the 2Wheels1Lane name.
